Retro fashion cycles back around, retro cars become cool, retro music aka "oldies", and now: retro technology. Google took it old school yesterday, changing their Google Maps interface to 8bit ala Nintendo. Ok, I lie, it was an April Fools Day maneuver. Still cool.
Go here to check it out.

Apple Product Whores
Even though we both currently own Blackberry phones, combined we own a disgusting amount of apple products (MacBook, IMac, 2 Ipods, Itouch, Ipad). And, in about a week we'll be adding, hopefully, three more: 2 Iphone 4Gs' and an Ipad 3. As soon as that happens, I wouldn't mind purchasing this genius invention:
The JuiceTank is an Iphone case with a built in wall charger prong AND a micro USB outlet. #Genius.

Thursday Update: What Ever Happened To....?
The dial up modem sound.
You remember it; late night, summer of '97, you just got your "Free AOL Trial" disc in the mail. Hells yeah! Version 2.5 just came out, time to get online and chat with the other six people you know with the internet. Type in your info then connect and voila! your ears are orgasmed by the dial up modem sound. But, whatever happened to that sound once the future took over and DSL, cable and T1 lan lines came in to play? Well, absolutely nothing, duh.
Except this cool dubstep rendition by Chrispy and a place on the pop culture archive shelves.
Chrispy - Dial Up (Dubstep)
BONUS: An absolute gem here! Dial up modem sound slowed down 700%, makes for creepy scary movie background music.

Arcade Button Light Switches
Pretty cool idea. Light switch covers replaced with arcade machine buttons.
Only available at etsy.com right now, but soon to be exploited against the original patent and available just about everywhere.

Yahoo Bus Stop Derby
San Francisco seems to be a popular quick getaway location for a lot of my friends lately. Next time you guys are up there, keep your eyes peeled for one of these 20 Yahoo bus stop fixtures with touch screen video games installed on them instead of some overexposed Hollywood blockbuster movie poster.
AND!, if a city employee isn't hogging the game while getting paid your tax dollars (the HIGHEST tax dollars in the nation i might add), then you might actually have a chance to play. Pretty damn cool.
Scores are updated in real time and are pitted against the other 19 bus stops to deem high scorers for the day.

Back In The Days....
Here's a really interesting interview by Rolling Stone Magazine with Nas titled TDK Chronicles. For those youngins out there, TDK was a brand of blank cassette tape you could buy to record your favorite music off the radio on. There were other brands that made blank cassettes, like Maxell and Sony, but no one bought those because they were too expensive.
In this clip, Nas reminisces about radio recording and making his own mixtapes. Yes, we used to make our own mixtapes. Loooong before the MP3 was invented in 1994, we actually had to record songs off the radio if we wanted to replay it later. And damn you Julio G for chiming in at the end of all my favorite songs and ruining my home mixtapes!

Happy MLK Day, Black Kid Wins
Here's a french video clip of a bunch of kids trying to figure out what 1970's and 1980's technology was. Then the shit hits the fan and a little black kids figures out how to scratch a record in about 20 seconds (2:30 mark), further supporting all stereotypes of urban black youth. No that wasn't a racist comment, it was the truth, there's a huge difference.

Pee Like A Man
Ladies, don't be ashamed to admit it--you've either wished, attempted, or have been curious since you were a wee child. Unfortunately, we aren't blessed (or cursed, depending on how you see it) with the hose-like contraption to pee and aim perfectly into the toilet without having to sit. Especially when one is forced to go into a port-a-potty at a concert; it's a bitter reminder of how glorious it would be to just "bust it out". Well wish no more! Don't know what it's called, but clearly there are innovative ways to make your childhood dreams come true (esp when necessary). Here's to peeing like a man.

Hands Free Since 1984
Long before even Zack Morris was rocking the cell brick, Kwame Boombaclot over here was prepping himself for a hands free lifestyle.

Jason Schwartzman for The New Yorker
If I had a product (or in this case a magazine), Jason Schwartzman is the first person I'd contact for celebrity endorsement.

Bathrooms Just Became a LOT Smaller
Now, if we, as a society, can figure out how not to ruin good things when they're given to us this might actually be a possibility. But unfortunately, drunks will think it's funny to piss in the fountain.

Splish Splash I Was Taking a Piss
Looks like the outdoor concert industry needs to step it's toilet game up.
This $15,000 porta-potty comes complete with porcelain toilets, hot water sinks, stalled urinals and even pumps in your favorite elevator muzak to make your peepee flow rhythmically. My peepee flows rhythmically already though, seeing as how I have a constant personal theme song playing in my head 24 hour a day. It gets pretty annoying when I'm trying to sleep though. Does anyone know where the off button is?

Being Drunk Just Got Easier
No longer will I have to fidget with my house keys while holding $19.67 worth of Del Taco in my hands. This new drunk-friendly keyhole makes life easier.

Too Much Good Stuff
....like the AM PM commercials always say.
Consumerism sucks. Not because it tricks the mind into thinking it needs to have luxuries that aren't necessary; but because too much good stuff is released at the same time. Oh well, time to become rich and famous and get one of those coveted black cards.
Dr Marten's worn out 1460
Come already beat up so you don't have to look like a poseur with clean docs. Releasing on April 1st marking their 50th anniversary (1460 = 1-4-60 in European date abbreviation: day/month/year)
Vans Chukka LX x Anaheim Angels
Yeah, Anaheim, not that wack Los Angeles shit. These are limited to 12 pairs and will release April 5th @ Proper in Long Beach (go figure). I guess Long Beach is the neutral middle ground between OC and LA
Polaroid 600 Camera Kit
Complete with one pack of Polaroid 600 film. Resurrected design by Paul Giambarba. Requires NO BATTERIES. But don't get too excited, Polaroid film isn't cheap. Neither is this camera set @$180.

Watching TV Just Got Better
I know a bunch of you readers are going to see this and say, "But I drink twist-offs". But for those of us that have grown up and don't like Budweiser anymore, this is for you. The genius, and sheer obviousness, of this contraption leads us to ask ourselves, "Why the fuck didn't i think of this."
We lose, and win, at the same time.

Banana Condoms?
Nope. Those aren't dildo storage cases (although, a dildo storage case wouldn't be such a bad idea). Those are actually Banana Bunkers. They keep your bananas from bruising when they're banging around your briefcase/back pack all day long? Yeah, not the greatest invention but usually anything that looks like a prosthetic penis grabs the attention of potential customers. And marketing 101 states: Anyone that views your product, either voluntarily or forcefully, is still a potential customer.
So go get yourselves a Banana Dildo, uhm I mean Banana Bunker. Yeah, Banana Bunker.
