The Emotions of Football

I know, I know, you probably think I mean American football.  True, the Superbowl is right around the corner but the REAL football championship is currently taking place for the African nations.

The African Cup of Nations tournament is played every two years and serves as the main focal point for all the African countries.  It's pretty much the ONLY event that uplifts the spirits of the many poverty stricken citizens of the war torn continent.  Fans of the teams that are fortunate enough to qualify for the competition scrape their money together and travel to the host county, which is Algeria this time around.  So you can only imagine the angst and pain the supporters go through when their beloved teams lose.

Cote d'Ivoire (The Ivory Coast) was a HUGE favorite to win the competition but was recently upset by host country Algeria in the quarterfinals.  Here's a few images taken immediately after the game.

....and you thought YOU loved sports huh?
