Nintendo Owned the Late 80's

My oldest brother, Michael, got me and my other brother, JJ, a Nintendo for christmas in 1986. Honestly, i think my mom bought it and wrote Michael's name on the tag but regardless I got a damn Nintendo son!

Funniest part about it, if Michael did in fact buy the Nintendo, it was intentional so that he could play it as well. It seemed like every time i wanted to partake, he was already sitting in front of the TV playing Donkey Kong.

Being that i was only 5 and didn't understand how electronics worked, I was often extremely disappointed when i had to turn the Nintendo off at the end of the night. Only to find out that when i rebooted the following morning, all of my progression was lost. Fuck you kid, start from the beginning again. It was extremely irritating, so I got into the habit of NOT turning off the system. This was never really a problem, seeing as how i was completely addicted and never really stayed away from the TV for longer than a night of sleep. So the Nintendo never burned or anything like that.

But, since i was only 5, i didn't realize that the TV itself had nothing to do with the Nintendo. So rather than leaving JUST the Nintendo on, I also left the TV on as well. In fear that turning off the TV would also turn off the console. And since i shared a room with my older brother JJ, I really didn't have a smarter brain in the room to tell me it was ok to turn the TV off. If you know JJ, you know EXACTLY what i'm talking about.

To put a long story short, I had almost conquered Castlevania when it was time for my family to head out for a weekend getaway. I left the Nintendo AND the TV on over the weekend. When i returned i found the image of Simon Belmont (Main character in Castlevania) doing his damn thing all over the screen, PERMANENTLY. The image had been burnt onto the screen.

Watching my favorite 80's sitcoms looked a little something like this:
